All About Mrs. Collins...
Dear Parents,
Welcome to a brand new year at Heritage Elementary. My name is Heather Collins and I will be your child’s teacher this year. My husband Benny and I live in Wake Forest with our three children, Lauren, Caitlin and Ryan. I graduated from the University of NC at Wilmington with a BA in elementary education and began my teaching career at Wake Forest Elementary in 1991. I have 14 years of experience teaching preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade. In addition, I have also tutored students in grade K-12 and spent 10 valuable years as a stay at home mom and church, community, and PTA volunteer. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, gardening and trail/road running.
In my classroom I strive to have an atmosphere of acceptance, tolerance, cooperation and safety. I recognize that all children are individuals with different prior experiences, learning styles and personalities. It is my job to celebrate and accept those differences as I plan activities and help children grow academically and socially.
Please take a minute to send me an email to tell me about your child. Include their talents, fears, strengths and weaknesses. Also include your insight on how they learn best; hands-on, verbally, visually. This information will be invaluable as I begin to plan our first weeks of school. This will also give me the opportunity to add you to our class email group.
I am truly looking forward to learning with and about your child. Please stay involved and interested in your child’s progress as the year moves on. Feel free to call, write or email me so that, together, we can make sure your child has an effective, positive and enjoyable year.
Sincerely,
Heather Collins
